I started this book because i wanted to know more about this crazy guy Charles Manson. I was captivated by how a person could quite possibly mind control others. This led me to watch a few videos of him and I was strangely taken by the guy and could in fact see how. I was freaked out!
I thought Vincent Bugliosi did an amazing job of laying out the facts, as per his point of view, and presented how the entire case was wired together. I did a bit more digging and came across some comments on Reddit that mention it worth a follow up to read a book called Chaos, which i will do when im mentally prepared to take something like this on, that actually provides many counter arguments to just what went down. Just reading those comments left me feeling 'was Manson really the devil he was made out to be'. I dont know what to think anymore!
But, I can say great book, heavy reading for a long time, and I enjoyed it, but im glad its done too!

i didn’t realise i listened to an abridged version so take my review with a hint of salt bc i felt like i learnt about as much as i would if i had just read the wikipedia page for the manson family and that makes more sense now that i know this was the abridged version. still, the writing was very detailed and dry, which is fine but not my thing, and i got what i wanted out of it which was to know more about the manson murders

This book was the longest audiobook I have ever listened to at 26.5 hours. It was incredibly in depth and detailed. It was very hard to keep track of names, places, timelines, and important details. I often had to rewind and re-listen to parts over and over again and would tune out for minutes at a time because I just couldn’t figure out what was going on.
That said, I do feel like I received a full explanation on Charles Manson and who he was and the Manson Family.
Candidly, the author and main representation for the prosecution, Vincent Bugliosi, is incredibly cocky. He spends a lot of time talking himself up and how great and smart he is rather than just laying out facts.
