Audiobook Review
Really enjoyed this, listened to the entire book in 2 days, even with work through it!
The narrator Katie Villa has narrated other Boland books and I recognised her voice straight away! She always gives a fantastic performance on the books I have listened to previously.
I loved this, the trope of 'someone making someone look crazy' always makes for a suspenseful and gripping read, and this was no different!
I was gripped throughout, and although I didn't quite 'get' the ending, and had to relisten without distractions, this was a fantastic book and I loved how it all came together.
Boland always gives me a really enjoyable read!

The idea behind this book was good, if not predictable. The author rushed through the story so the reader isn’t able to buy in the way they could if there had been more development.

Overall a pretty good read. At first I thought the beginning of this book was so super similar to A Simple Favor but it ended up not being. I could pick out some of these things happening way before they even happened. The brother... I knew it was the guy following the main character around. The column in the paper, that was almost obvious it was going to get stolen away from her by Darcy. I enjoyed it but it wasn't anything life changing.

When Louisa meets Darcy, she really really likes her and soon they become great friends and their respective partners also seem to get along very well. Darcy not only has a really beautiful house, loving husband, a really settled life. Darcy seems to be slowing creeping into everything in Louisa & her husband Jared's life - their daily conversations, decisions. Slowly Louisa seems to get an eerie feeling that something is not right, everything that Darcy does seems to have a hidden agenda. As the truth gets uncovered, I was on the edge of my seat!

Vicious is the one word that came to my mind as I devoured this audiobook, really loved the narration by Katie Villa

Thanks

This is my second book from the author and although I can admire a slow build, I guessed what was happening about halfway through. I couldn't stand the fact that no one believed Palmer about her suspicions about Darcy, not even her husband or sister! Darcy seemed like a nut from the first time her and Palmer met. How do you become such fast friends after 1-2 weeks? So much that you have combined birthday parties, picking up your child, and going into business with their husband? Make it make sense! SMH The ending was satisfying for me though.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the audio ARC.

So why did I give this novel three stars? First of all, the story was exciting in the beginning. Second, I wanted to see how everything would come together. While this thriller can boast a few surprises, it is mostly predictable. I feel like I’ve read this storyline in another book

A great suspenseful psychological thriller.

Louise having just moved to the area is delighted to make a new friend in Darcy. Over time though, like Louisa, I found myself questioning just how good a friend Darcy actually is.

This is one of those stories where the build up of tension is just electrifying. I could hardly sit still as I waited for things to unfold before me. The more I got to see, the more I became to dislike Darcy and not trust her one bit. Just like Louisa, sadly though even her own husband doesn’t believe her when she starts having doubts, brushing them to one side.

There are some wonderful twists that had me gasping in shock at what I was reading. I absolutely love it when an author can surprise me and this is one author who hasn’t failed to do that yet with one of her books. If you love psychological thrillers then you really must add this authors books to your, to be read, pile.

The Best Friend is a gripping page turner of a read that you just have to read in one sitting. I could feel my heart literally pounding the further into the story I got. Definitely one that will have you on the edge of your seat. You always know it’s a good book when time just stands still as you are so absorbed in the story and then all of a sudden you are back in the real world with a jolt and hours have passed. Loved, loved, loved it!

My thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for an advanced readers copy of this book. All opinions are my own and not biased in anyway.

This book was fine but nothing memorable; I mean if you asked me next week what it was about I doubt I'd be able to tell you.

It was fast-paced and short which made it a really quick read and engaging enough to keep me interested. Having said that, it was all rather cliché and predictable, some of the things Louisa was doing in regards to Darcey made my eyes roll that hard I feared they wouldn't appear again.

Decent but really generic.
