“It is so much easier to sit in things and wait for something to save us.”
A really lovely, easy read. It felt a TAD surface level due to how fast of a turn around the main character made. But I’m trying really hard not to let my inner snob tell me to lower the rating of this book just because it was cheesy. Being a cheesy book doesn't have to take away from the message, and I do think this book had a really wonderful message. It encouraged choosing life and loving the little moments as much as the major. It showed the beauty and breath of fresh air that can come from authenticity and honesty and vulnerability. It showed us a way of living that I think we all aspire to but never actually pursue. I think I’ll change that now, instead of doing the easy thing of waiting for something to change it for me.

Even though this story starts out sad and discusses suicidal thoughts, it turns into an oddly funny tale. I see why this was a BOTM club book of the year finalist.

I loved this book! It was dark with humorous undertones, which made the book fly by, and I enjoyed the writing style. I also liked how Espach incorporated little flashbacks that gave readers an insight into each character. I liked all the literature references as well. There was so much growth and healing throughout the entire story, and I felt like I had a whole new perspective on life. I thought the setting was beautiful, and it helped bring the ideas to life. I also enjoyed how real Phoebe's journey was. She was blunt, sarcastic, and funny, and the depth of her character will resonate with me for a long time. I couldn't stop reading. This book was very hyped, and for good reason. It was an emotional journey, and I'm so glad I picked it up!

Predictable, easy read with a smattering of interesting art and literature references.
