Infinitely better than the first book, although still with its flaws. The story is much more compelling and a lot of trauma-related behaviors feel much more realistic in a way. I think it's kind of corny and gross to just pretend the love interests didn't do skeevy things in the first book, and I also don't care for the abundance of sex scenes (how many times does SJM think a girl will cum from fingering and penetration? Has she had sex before??). But other than that, seriously much more interesting than the first book.

I felt that this book was well written, the plot carried along very well, and was well paced. I thought the development of this book was great, and really pushed forward the series. I liked the development of the FMC throughout the book, how she went from one extreme, being frail and withered, to a dominating force to be reckoned with. It really showed how just some care and attention, letting her heal and come into herself was all she needed.
I really hate Tamlin, I cannot believe he locked her up and buried her in the background of life. I hated that he didn't seem to care about her PTSD, her illness when she'd get sick in the bathroom, her grief, and panic. He never extended his hand to her in assistance or showing he ever cared. It was very aggravating and angering that he didn't care about Fayre, just his own agenda.

I really liked how Rhys came into play with this aspect above. I really liked that he was willing to swoop in and assist in helping Fayre. I really liked that he was actually concerned about how withered and withdrawn she looked, that he was enraged on her behalf. I liked that he pushed her to an extent, and let her have her feelings and grief, assisting her in her PTSD and panic, and didn't let her hide. I think he was a perfect match for her that way.

I liked how well Fayre came into herself, a force to be reckoned with, not letting anyone snake past her, hurt her or her new found family. I liked that she protected her bond with Rhys and let him in. I also feel so heartbroken that she had to play the role she did at the end of the book with the King, and that she ended up back with Tamlin, even if it's to destroy him from the inside out.

Definitely a change of pace from the first book- this is super character driven, the focus is def primarily Feyre’s emotional/mental state & relationships. Not for everyone maybe but I liked it a lot! Also I think the romance was well-developed and didn’t feel forced or rushed <3 for sure the highlight of the book for me along with seeing a fantasy female lead truly grapple with trauma, which I feel like gets glossed over sometimes. Pacing is not quite as tight as the first book with the action towards the end feeling a little sudden/an abrupt tone shift/rushed, but it’s not egregious.  Again, nothing groundbreaking w all the tropes used- I found a lot of moments predictable lol- but still really enjoyed reading the execution!

This book broke me down and built me back up.
TW: DV, Depression, PTSD.
After everything that happened in the first book let’s just say that Feyre is a little torn up and needed a Night in Illyrian leathers to save the day.

mental health struggles
Major character development
Found family
“Enemies” to lovers
Lovers to Enemies
Heist heist heist.
Banter.

This book was just perfect and so very relatable to me.

I don't trust anyone who says this series gets better after book one.
