I liked book 2 MUCH more than book 1, there are aspects of this book I wish were less rigid. Also I basically cringe everytime they say “female”

I think that the heteronormative system that sjm establishes just really got in the way of me enjoying the book. I didn’t really expect it in a fae setting (why establish sexism in a world you made up if you’re not going to engage with it critically??) Also it feels a little weird to me that sjm portrays the fae as a relatively sexually liberated society, yet “whore” carries such weight as an insult. Again, it could be interesting if she engages with it critically but it just seems a little shallow as is. Having read two of the books now, the books are really starting to lack tension/stakes for me. Everything always goes right for Feyre and none of the relationships have any chance to build (there’s potential for more tension in the relationships, but the potential is ultimately wasted). Any “tension” is based on silly miscommunications which honestly made me dislike the characters more. I’m begging sjm to let her characters have flaws!! Like how are they all perfect? It’s boring!

I have not read a book this fast since high school (and never one this big). The scenes had me on the edge of my seat, feeling every emotion as if I was there myself. This was even better than the first book and the ending had me craving for answers. About to pick up acowar tomorrow because I CANNOT get enough of this series !!

There are quite a few battle scenes as the main characters prepare for the impending war so fighting and blood is inevitable.

There are some detailed scenes talking about Rhysand's time being "Amarantha's whore" which consisted of a lot of sexual abuse

There are also descriptive sex scenes a couple times in the book outside of some forward sexual remarks.

After finishing the first book in the series I did not understand what the hype was all about. I found it to be middling at best. When enough people promised me that the second book was better, I reluctantly decided to give a whirl and wow. It's exponentially better in every way. The world building is incredible, the character development far exceeds anything in first book, and most importantly the chemistry is palpable. Do not be turned off by the first book; it's just something you have to get through in order to get to this gem.
