Livro bem curtinho, bem escrito, com uma mensagem bem clara.
Apesar de ser louvável um livro tão pequeno cumprir bem seu papel, queria umas 150 páginas a mais para aprofundar nos personagens, no passado e no futuro, porque a autora criou uma cidade inteira, dezenas de pessoas sobre as quais você fica curiosa pra saber de onde vieram, como pensam, pra onde vão e, de repente, puf, acabou.
Vou atrás do filme recém-lançado e de outros livros da autora.

Ich weiß nicht, irgendwie war das Buch mir glaube ich zu realistisch?
Die Missstände die das Buch anspricht werden von allen Charakteren einfach akzeptiert und alle möchten nur, dass es ihnen selbst gut geht. Und das ist mir einfach zu nah an unserer Realität.
Besonders, da ein Teil der Geschichte auf einer wahren Begebenheiten beruht und die Unterdrückung von Frauen aufzeigt, lässt mich Verbindung zu unserer aktuellen Gesellschaft ziehen, was mir per sé gefällt aber irgendwie habe ich mir was ganz anderes von diesem kleinen Buch erhofft.

I wasn’t desperate to read this but it became available through my library and is less than 2 hours, so I had a listen. It’s a slice of life novel that gives a glance at Ireland’s working class society in 1985, while also highlighting the Magdalene Laundries scandal that many young women were victims of, while exploring the difficulties of doing the right thing, even when you know it will come at significant personal cost.
I enjoyed the book, the audio version is great to listen to, and the writing is gentle, simple, but poignant. A very thoughtful novel, and well executed. I didn’t love it, but that’s more due to personal preference, and my slightly headache-y brain this morning, rather than any flaw of the writing.
