there were like three instances of people or places being described as "israeli" and seeing that the main character and the author are journalists, i found it really fucking weird that there was no follow up about israel's occupation of palestine. i can't find anything the author has wrote or tweeted about it either sooooo. make of that what u will. there was also a really fucking weird line that was like "a dark-skinned nanny pulled two white kids down the road" or something soooooo

2.5 stars. The main character is so deeply unlikeable that reading her story was hard for me to get through at points. I know that is probably the point, but it didn’t land for me.

Felt like it was following a formula: plot occurs, MC spirals with imaginary situations to make herself feel better, self pity self pity, rinse repeat. I also really didn't think the sexual proposition was at all realistic? It felt like a male fantasy

This book was an absolute train wreck in one of the best ways. Firstly, I hates the main character, she seemed completely out of her mind and spiraling. I. could. not. look. away. I devoured this book and had no idea where things were going to go next with Natasha or her family.

Honestly, I'm not sure if the author wrote Natasha, and almost every character to be dislikable to show how being around negative / toxic people also makes us negative and toxic to be around or if they're all just people who suck. But at the same time, Natasha is an incredibly unhinged character who needs therapy, medication and maybe a trip to grippy sock jail for some of her behaviors.

On the other hand, I liked seeing the backend of journalism and the newsroom (hello, I have a degree in it) and I get wanting nothing to do with it after seeing what's actually happening behind the scenes, the ecosystem and the lack of integrity mattering. Overall, I thought this was an interesting read.
