A story about 5 people with too much money and time complaining about not having enough work to do. Poor, poor rich people.
Fortunately, the last quarter of the book picks up with actual life lessons and wisdom, though tragic in nature. Baron Nikolaj Lvovich Tuzenbach's rants right before his duel was favorite part.

I have only listened to one recording of a Chekhov play ("The Seagull") which I really enjoyed.
I have mixed feelings with Mamet. I enjoyed "American Buffalo" but loathed "Glengarry Glen Ross." I think I lost some of the relationships between the men and women throughout this adaptation.
I'm about to read the adaptation by Nicholas Wright next and I'm anxious to see if I have a preference.

A short read about three russian sisters who long to return to Moscow. A whole lot of 'what is the purpose of life?' questions being thrown about with very philosophical answers from Vershinin. An enjoyable read even though it was a tad dramatic at times.... well quite a bit actually.
This play shows all of the mixed feelings and reactions of living with family and in a small town. Bickering, sniping, but everyone comes together in love during trouble and can't bear to leave one another. True to life.
