I'll make this review short, not because I didn't like the book, but I just moved to a different town and don't have much time. If I don't write the review now, I probably never will, so...

I'm in a bit of a reading slump yet still loved this novel (and the next) and clearly see why it still is all the rage.

First, the weaknesses : love triangles (two of them), very young adult, or possibly kdrama. That's all, folks.

Second, what I loved : the characters, a delight ; the setting, very unusual for a fantasy ; the evolution of said characters (Laia is not a badass at the start, it's a nice change from the usual : for instance, soldiers erupt into her house, she's afraid, that's normal ! - what happens with Elias ? So surprising, I wouldn't have guessed !).

To sum it all rapidly, it's a wonderful fantasy novel with an unusual setting and a plot that will keep you riveted. I read the second book, still love it. The third and fourth are somewhere in the big piles in my soon-to-be library.

I had this book on my shelf for years and i wish i picked it up way sooner. Glad i started the new year with an amazing read.

“How did you know i wasn’t Marcus?” I croak. My throat is dry, and i take another sip of water from the reed canteen she’s made. “Or Zak?”
“I can tell the difference between you and a couple of reptiles.”
