A genuinely entertaining YA that I thought was going to be a lot more of a marker of its time. Classic circa 2010s tropes were certainly present but not in the same boring way and I can see this being a good foundation for the rest of the series.

This wasn’t quite as good as I was hoping but it was definitely a good start. The Masks are so cool as a concept. Tbh Laia was kind of… stupid. (spoilers ahead!!) The way the Resistance was clearly lying to her the whole time and yet she kept willingly believing them until the very end was weird.

Helene is a raging Mask n Empire loving bitch and I was tired of her weak ass “redemptions” that kept getting sprinkled in. I hope she dies.
