Fastest I’ve read a book in a while
I've been meaning to read this book for such a long time. I've been worried that I wouldn't like it or it wouldn't live up to the hype but damn was I wrong. I've Definitley found my new series to binge read. Sabaa manages to keep so many secrets I genuinely have no idea why things or happening or what will happen I'm just so darn intrigued and I can't wait to read more.
The plot was intriguing and interesting I found the characters of course easily loveable and it's refreshing reading a slightly darker fantasy YA book instead of a fluffy one which of course I instantly loved.
I can see why this book is series is so addicting the writing flows beautiful and I the story is just constantly intriguing. Also that ending ahhh. This truly is a great fantasy read.

Its been a few months since i finished this series. I'm not going to spoil it... but its a 5 star read to me. I still think about this book constantly. Especially while I put honey into my tea...
I usually spot the clues to how the plot twists will go... but Tahir, the genius they are, turns the plot twist into something absolutely not expected.
These books stressed me out... I would say these books are older teen YA. And I'm not an action person, as i find battles hard to follow... but the action in this book was easy to follow and exciting!
My take away for this series: We might have been born into injustice.. and while we learn to understand our true enemy's motive.. we can change things for the better.

An Ember in the Ashes was decent, but not amazing. The world itself was really well done, brutal, intense, and inspired by ancient Rome, which gave it a solid foundation. But the fantasy elements, they felt underdeveloped. The magic didn’t feel well-integrated into the world at all, it kind of just appeared when convenient, without any real explanation or world-building behind it. That part really pulled me out of the story.
I liked Laia. She felt very real, scared, unsure, trying her best to help her brother even when she felt completely useless. Elias was a good character too, struggling to stay true to himself in a system built on violence and control. Their perspectives kept the story moving.
One of my bigger annoyances was the whole dynamic between Elias and his best friend. It felt like the author was trying to leave the door open for romance just in case, but didn’t actually commit to it. I wish it had either stayed strictly platonic or gone all in, because the middle ground didn’t work for me.
In the end, the book was fine. Entertaining enough to finish, but the lack of depth in the fantasy elements and some underdeveloped character relationships brought it down for me. Not bad, just not great.
