The Try out es ese libro que necesitas cuando de repente las cosas no te salen bien y necesitas a alguien que te anime y te eche una mano para no rendirte. También es ese libro que comprende que ser un niño y adolescente no es fácil, a veces uno como adulto de repente olvida cómo se siente uno a esa edad. Uno de los temas es la popularidad, cambiar sólo para ser parte de algo, pero cuando eres tú mismo, en el camino te encuentras a personas que te aceptan tal y como eres. Es una historia divertida que te saca unas buenas risotadas y a veces sólo quieres darles unas palmaditas en la espalda a los personajes y apoyarles, también te saca una que otra lagrimita al ver el crecimiento de estos, sobre todo de la protagonista. Me encantaron esas referencias del señor de los anillos, por cierto.
An excellent coming of age story that also tackles micro-aggressions and racism. The author’s note is also a must-read!

This was a perfect ending! I found myself tearing up throughout the book… the characters show resilience despite racism and general adolescent angst. I know this one will be very popular with my students- a window and a mirror book. ❤️

This was an okay book. I was expecting it to move a bit quicker than it did. The plot was good, but I found it a bit boring when the main character Christina has flashbacks from when she was little. I think this book would be much better without some parts of it, but overall I give the book 4 stars.
