Not as good as I anticipated since Alligator Pie is one of my all-time favourites. However, it was fun, silly, and thought provoking. And my four-year made up his own poem last night after we finished it, so I would say it had an appropriate effect!

DENNIS LEE IS A NATIONAL TREASURE and his first book of poetry for kiddos in foreverrrr is also awesome. I'm grinning at every poem. I've always loved Dennis Lee for his way of making poetry slide off your tongue so beautifully! Also for introducing me to places like Medicine Hat and Moosejaw.

In this one we get fun-to-say lines like "A picky-pocket person came / And stole the puck away" and "I thought I saw a potamus, / Asleep upon a cotamus, / But when I reached the spotamus, / The potamus was notamus", and of course some more Canadian cities: "The sun goes down in Coboconk, / In Killaloe and Wawa".

Make sure to read this book out loud. I can't wait to use some of these poems in storytime!
