Fitz’s story comes to an end and it ends the only way it could have. A right ending. Overall, another excellent book. The last third is both pulse-pounding and heart wrenching. I do wish I’d read the Liveship Trilogy prior to this book as the first two thirds felt very much like I was missing something (many characters and places from the Liveship stories appear here) and I think I would have given the book 5 stars if I hadn’t been confused with the new cast of characters I felt like I was supposed to know and didn’t.

After 2.5 years, I finished the last book in The Realm of the Elderling series. I liked that this book brought everything together forth at was building throughout the series. Many characters get cameos and of course Fitz and the Fool get their conclusion. I also appreciated the drawn out conclusion that gave you a chance to say goodbye to the characters and delivers a satisfying, if incredibly bittersweet ending.

An incredible end to what I predict will always be my favourite series. Hobb finishes every plot in the most satisfying way, as always. I am so glad I spent so much of my time and emotions with these characters.
