CSI and cop. Audiobook. Lots of ocean, beach, island life, and photography. Murder, environmental activism.

Miranda was out taking pictures at sunrise for a calendar she's been asked to do and she comes upon a canoe with staged dead bodies. She moved to the island to get away from her CSI life, and instead her training and instincts take over. She ends up helping Joel and the police department solve the crime.

Miranda and Joel are both hard working, however they are attracted to one another and with the heat that ends up on Miranda they can't stay away from each other any longer. I love the fact that we get the suspense of the murder and the romance of these characters. The more I got to know these two characters the more I liked them. Also, with the clues we were getting about the killer, I thought it was someone else and was very surprised at who it actually was. I could not believe it was who it was this person seemed so normal. I liked this book, it kept my attention and made me want to know what happened next. Flight was a very well written book and a great addition to the Texas Murder Files series.

Received ARC in exchange for voluntary honest review.

Really enjoyed this one. Did NOT see the ending coming until the reveal. Great suspense and a sweet romance.

3.5 - A steamy romantic suspense featuring a Texas serial killer and the crime scene photographer and policeman working to track him down. I haven’t read the first book in the series but this one was a fun summer read. Thanks to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for my advance listening copy.

Flight (The Texas Murder Files #2)
By Laura Griffin, narrated by Teri Clark Linden

Since I have the ARC of the fourth audiobook in this series coming up, I wanted to listen to the first three books in the series. I'm getting to those three books a bit out of order since I was able to listen to #2 before I was able to get audiobook #1 but this series doesn't need to be read/heard in order to follow the characters and the plot. I'm all set to start audiobook #1 today so my bit of out of order-ness will be just a faint memory in a few days.

Former forensic photographer Miranda Rhoads has rented a place in seaside town of Lost Beach, TX, where she is trying to get away from her old job and a crime investigation that is haunting her. Now she is working as a wildlife photographer and teaching a college course. She's in a nice little beachside house with her cute and excitable rescue pup and she likes to think she'll gain some distance from the past so that she can move on to a better place in her head. Then she is thrown right back into the world of crime when she finds two bodies. Since she has her camera with her she takes some crime scene photos and notifies the police.

It doesn't take long for Detective Joel Breda to recognize what a big help that Miranda could be to the case. Soon Miranda is involved in the case and with the detective. The more she tries to talk herself out of becoming involved the more likely she seems inclined to jump into a relationship and a new job. Miranda and Joel are likeable and available so it's pretty full steam ahead on those two fronts. There is definitely a mystery here that goes deeper than just the murder to two people but there is also romance that doesn't seem to have much to hold it back. If Miranda thinks she shouldn't do something, she's going to do it!

This was a fantastic book. Miranda couldn't help but figure out what happened to the couple that she found in a sinking canoe dead. Thankfully the photos she took helped the investigative team with clues as Mother Nature decided to have it rain. Miranda is drawn to Joel even as she tells herself that it's not a good idea to get involved with someone that she is working with. A fantastic story with lots of suspense and romance. I can't wait for the next book in this series.

I had never heard of this author but I will now be reading more of her work. This was a good story with interesting characters. A little spicier than I normally read but still very good. I definitely want to know what happens next with these characters.

***I was given a copy of the audiobook by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
