Absolutely the most essential book I have ever read. It was written so smartly and efficiently and this author has gagged me so bad I can't even properly talk about it like.... the research alone....It is crazy and everyone needs to read this book immediately. It. changed. the. way. I. see. the. world. A 6-star read if there ever was one!!

The beginning 1/3 of the book was very compelling & described exactly what Wilkerson dubbed the American Caste system &just how extreme it is.
After that, there were parts I found redundant, or random, & occasionally contradictory.
A good read to check your biases, understand why there’s still such a divide here, &/or further radicalize you.

Isabel Wilkerson is such a skilled writer. She knows how to weave stories into her non-fiction to make it more engaging, and I found myself reflecting on her anecdotes throughout the day, not just while I was reading. She is compassionate and accurate in her analysis of India's caste system-one that I know well, having been raised in it. The only reason I couldn't bring myself to give this book 5 stars is because she praises Germany for its learnings on the Holocaust, while as we can see today, they haven't really learned at all. Never again for anyone.

Ok, that’s it, Isabel Wilkerson is one of my favorite authors. I also loved the Warmth of Other Suns. She gives all the information you want from a non fiction, but adds a narrative and human element that draws you in. Really really well done, important and enjoyable reading. I loved the plumber story at the end and how she handled herself. I’m hoping for that to stick with me for awhile to come.

Actually allowed me to understand how the poles of the caste system in the US function as someone who happens to be middle caste.
