A remarkable telling of the US space program during the Gemini-Apollo era (Collins had no involvement with the Mercury phase). Michael Collins relates his personal experiences as an astronaut in a way that is surprisingly revealing. He tends to not hold anything back. Originally written in 1974.

i love collins’ voice, and it’s a testament to how much better it is to tell a story like this through his own words because it was engaging all throughout. there were moments wherein the technical terminology would slow me down—i was more interested in the happenings of collins’ life than the workings of very difficult to operate machinery. it’s interesting still, and there was plenty of ground to cover since it’s basically his entire life up to a certain point.
