A masterpiece! So detailed, so technical but still so personal. I'm an even bigger fan of Michael Collins now then before I read this book. Read it
Collins' voice gives this book personality and humor- he's a great storyteller. You can tell he is very... Down to earth. It seems he neglected no details about his journey to his journey to the moon, and I happily soaked it all up.
As a small warning to readers, I was taken aback at a couple of comments he made about women, especially women as astronauts. He is a "man's man" of his time, which is mildly disappointing.
He is also a big name dropper, which I'm sure is fun if you are familiar with all the names tied to space flight (I am not).

A fantastic book. Inspiring, thought provoking, and witty. Collins captures his journey as an astronaut in vivid detail.
Bit of a longer audiobook about 20 hours but well worth listening to. Very informative and interesting. Recommend it to people being intrigued by space and astronauts!
In celebration of the 50th anniversary of the moon landing I decided to read Michael Collins autobiographical account of the mission. This book is at times poetic and at time tedious, which both seem to reflect the realities of the life of an astronaut. Michael Collins is precisely the person you want to walk you through the history. As the man who remained in the command module during the first moon walk he is both participant and observer with unparalleled access and perspective. He provides exacting detail of each step of the process with a few moments of profound reflection. While not an effortless read it is well worth the journey.
This book was awesome. Specific things that I enjoyed about it were the heart-racing descriptions of spacewalks, the idea of Michael alone behind the moon without radio communications for points of time, and how scientifically advanced NASA was even back in the 1960s to be able to figure all the engineering and mechanics out.
