If short stories are the punk rock of prose, then Lindsay Hunter's flash fiction is power violence: short, brutal, and visceral. The theme dominating all these stories is barf. Not for the faint of heart, but a thrill ride I would heartily recommend.

This is the type of fiction and short stories I have been waiting for all my life. Not every story was a banger, but I tell you what, when they were, they hit hard. I'm so glad Pissed Jeans put her on a record. Moving on to her novel next. She makes me want to up my game. I know I should feel disgusted by this work, but I don't.

Amazing. Lindsay Hunter's voice is unique and gross and beautiful. I only wish I had more than one of her books left to read.

Not a huge fan. Too much stream of consciousness writing and a little too dark, even for me.

Yet another Raymond Carver wannabe.

This book is odd. Descriptions are fresh and evocative, but some of the stories feel more like ruminations than finished pieces. And everything is weird, usually in a good way, though sometimes just weird. It's left me thinking, that's for sure.

About: It's a collection of bold and in some cases, provocative short stories.

Why I picked it: I don't often read short stories, but every once in a while, it's fun to switch it up. Plus a friend told me it was "interesting," which definitely piqued my curiosity.

Thoughts: Some of it was pretty crass/gross, which is not really my thing. However, I will concede that her writing style is pretty interesting. I didn't regret reading this and it was good to select something totally different from what I normally read.
