I wish it didn’t keep some of the ableist language from the original, but this is an excellent graphic novel adaptation.

The nostalgia for the Animorphs series probably helps, but I quite enjoyed this version of it. (I occasionally had to look closely to tell the difference between Tobias and Rachel, which was annoying, but probably just because of my personal difficulty with face recognition.) The characterization was great, and maybe even a bit more clear than in the original series (or maybe I was just oblivious back then to the deeper emotions behind Marco's constant joking). The sci-fi adventure and save-the-world-ness was just as much fun as I remember.jessthanthree's review against another edition

Considering I've already reviewed the contents of the book this is based on, my major review here is: while at first I didn't think much of Chris Grine's style, I really appreciate the way he draws faces and expressions. That, combined with paneling and coloring, really gave the comic it's own life.
One of my favorite scenes is the one that takes place at the Sharing, when "Tom" is trying to convince Jake to become a "full" member. The side-by-side panel where, in the flickering light of the bonfire, the true Tom regains control of his facial muscles for half a second, his face tenses up, and he's about to cry really hit me.
The final battle of the book also gave me visuals I never had while reading the books - showing the collateral damage of burning bodies falling from the staircase as Visser 3 chased the kids.
I was upset at one missing Marco scene - where he snaps at Jake about his "perfect family". But, aside from that one, I think this comic covered the novel very well, story-wise.
Also, Chris Grine's taxxons are incredibly cute.

I wasn't too keen on the art style at first (I remember seeing around the internet the rejected pages from other artists and wondering why they'd gone with this style in the end) but after reading, it really grows on you— and I guess it's a better fit for their 8-12 year old target.
The spreads are beautiful and the only complaint I have about the character design is that they didn't give Marco his long hair.
As for the adaptation, it's a very faithful one. There's a couple of minor changes in relation to the books here and there (mainly the omission of the "idiot teenagers with a death wish" phrase which made me sad, not gonna lie) but I ended up happy with it. Hope it ushers in a new generation of Animorphs fans and hope we get to see the entire series in this format!
