The international sporting vibes were so enticing! It's almost too bad that the primary conflict disrupted and destroyed them. Lots of great characters and relationships. The conflict resolution ran a bit long for my taste and involved a bit more lore than what I was excited to read with but it was still a solid read.

This book is like a long Quidditch match in Harry Potter! The dragons, the magic, the action! Such a good read!

I can think of several teens who would be into this story, and I think it will work well as a booktalk. I didn't like it at all, but the blend of sports, dragons, and mystery should make for a good hook, I think. Give this to your fans of The Testing or Harry Potter and teens who want something exciting.

I really enjoyed this, a lot more than I expected to. This should have a lot more hype than it does.

Not sure why this book is still so unknown - it was so fun! (Plus, it has a great cover.) Not only do we have well-developed dragon rider lore, but a whole sport designed around dragon riding! And there is magic unrelated to dragons as well.

This book has some of my favorite things: dragons, tournaments, and queer people. And I think it did all of it well. The way queer people were incorporated made them important to the story without the story being about their queerness, which is good, because that's not what the book was meant to be about. The book was meant to be about the mystery surrounding this dragon tournament and I loved it! The parts that were about the actual games was also well written and I was on the edge of my seat; it reminded me of when I would watch Pokemon as a kid and bite my nails whenever Ash was involved in a tournament that spanned several episodes. It did make me feel like a kid again in the best ways, while also not being afraid to talk about very difficult things, like identity and the political power that sports has.

The ending was an interesting one and I'll put that in a spoiler section, but all around, I loved this book and I can't wait to read the sequel.

Spoiler The book ends with Blazewrath coming to an end because of what it has become, and I think the book captures the feeling that comes with that so well; the characters who have not only made Blazewrath part of their lives but have made their lives revolve around Blazewrath feel an immense disappointment that its over while still having the understanding that having it come to an end is for the best. It's not often a story takes that hard, disappointing route, but it's the right one.

4/5 stars.

This was so good! Blazewrath Games was an exciting mix of magic and mystery that I adored. The book followed our main character Lana as she becomes a member of the Puerto Rican team for the blazewrath games, but finds out that not everything is what it seems and there's nothing harmless about it.

We're immediately thrown into the chaos early on, when Lana comes face to face with a dragon and a blazewrath superstar who Lana had once looked up to. Straight away I'm suspicious of the games, and what more there is to it, but Lana first and foremost has been dreaming about being a part of the game so is still resolute to join the team - but also to find out more about what's going on behind the scenes. I adore the ambition and bravery, she's smart and headstrong and doesn't back down from a fight. But, she's also vulnerable, shown with her interactions with her mother. It's easy to root for her.

The whole games itself is fascinating. The rules are complex and took me a while to get my head around. I loved how all the dragons had distinct looks from one another, and their bonds with their humans was so sweet. It made me really wonder, are they being held captive to play, or do they really enjoy the game as much as their humans do? The Sire clearly thinks differently - and he was an amazing villain to read about. A dragon turned human, what a unique antagonist who's ideals I could almost get behind if he weren't harming other dragons in the process of his plan to "free" them.

Overall, a great read, and I'm super excited to read the sequel!

3.5 stars. this was good and interesting. best part obviously the dragons. they're the reason i wanted to read this duh. but the plot was interesting too, it felt a little bit weak but i still enjoyed it and im really curious about whats gonna go down in the next book.

Blazewrath Games is one of the most original fantasies that I have ever read. From the worldbuilding to the concept to the plot, I was surprised by everything I saw because there was just so much that I had never encountered in YA before! And it put such a fresh spin on the tropes and genre conventions that I have seen before!!

The worldbuilding was really well done!! It was really easy to get into the story because I never felt like I was being overwhelmed with too much information at once. The information revealed was always relevant and I really appreciated the simplistic structure of the magical world because it gave a lot of room for the complexity of the dragon lore and their interactions with the humans!! Also the way dragons were written in this book was so original and I’m absolutely in love with it!!

I also really loved the plot! I thought there was a good balance between the main game plot and the behind-the-scenes plot and the two played off each other really well!! I think there were a couple of moments where I wished motivation was a little clearer, but other than that, I really loved it!! And the game aspect of it, especially, with the different dragon matches because those were so fun to watch!! And the stakes of it all!! I’m!! Still not over it, this is now officially an Amparo Ortiz stan account.

First of all, I loved Lana, our main character, with all of my heart and soul. There is just!! She’s incredibly well-fleshed out and she grows so much over the course of the story that I just couldn’t help but fall in love with her. I also loved seeing Lana’s interactions with the rest of the Puerto Rico team. I wish there had been a little more time to develop the characters on the team themselves because some of them fell a little flat to me, but I really loved what we got of them! And I will also say that I loved the side characters and, especially the antagonist and his motivations.

Overall, this is an incredible book that will keep you on the edge of your seat and also take you on one of the most original, unexpected, breathtaking journeys of your lifetime. I absolutely cannot recommend this one enough.
