At the beginning, I thought the events were just dragging along. It didn't seem that interesting. There was lots of detail put into the language and description but I found myself re-reading pages to understand what was going on. It was not until halfway through, I began to get into the story.

Things actually started happening. I guess I was just confused at the beginning because of the flashbacks.

When the time came, I anticipated the climax of the story, which was the battle. I was sorely disappointed because I was expecting more action and questioned the way the release of the Dark Fairy ceased the fighting.

Nevertheless, I really enjoyed this novel as it was featured a really unusual, creative and continuously twisting plot which left me craving for more when I reached the very last page.

I had fun with the audio book. I have some problems with listening to audio books since I have a quite short attention span. But the style in which Lionel Wigram is reading is mesmerizing and I really loved listening to him.

I loved how this book focuses on the familial relationship the most. I didn't like the love triangle that was introduced? Curious to see if that gets taken further in the next books? I won't be reading those next, but in the near future hopefully.

Not invested in the characters as we know nothing about them.

It feels like when you start book 2 in a series and they do a brief over view of what happened previously to bring you back up to speed, but we never got the world or character building . I gave it a good try at 209 pages but found myself just wanting to read something else .

I'm going stop here at page 43 and pick it up again.
I'm not in the mood for a 350+ paged book and it feels
like a Winter read to me, so I'm going to pick it up in November or December.
I do like it so I know I'll read it this year. :)

If Grimm and C.S Lewis (and a wee tad of Rowling's imagination) were capable of defying all laws of nature and spawned a child, that child would be Cornelia Funke. Written in German and translated to English, the book has the air of a classic fantasy novel.
Although, it wasn't as good as her Inkheart series-- I still enjoyed the book for what it was: wholly imaginative!

I think if it hadn't been for it's large print and short chapters, I might have given it two stars, but because it was a relatively quick read there really wasn't much for me to moan and groan about...

Still one of the most influential writers in my life!

This was so dark and so full of betrayal, psychotic love, and war. I know it's a series but I wanted to know more about the dad and why Will still believed in Jacob. It would hv improved the story if we had focused on what made Jacob stay. I did like how she wove elements of Grimm's into the story, though. More YA than Juv. 3.5 stars
