More story fragments than short stories, masterfully pieced together like a quilt to create a snapshot of life in Trinidad during the 2011 State of Emergency. This is more a story of ordinary people's lives than an overtly political message. I knew very little about Trinidad before reading this book and still don't know much about the politics behind the SoE. This seems like a book that will reward rereading.
