Beautifully written. Interesting characters and surprising turns of events. A bit outside of my usual reading patterns, and thus the 4 stars based on personal taste, but very happy to have read it. Hard to believe it's the author's first book ... he is masterful with language and dialogue.

Update: While I have lived in / near and/or worked in / near NYC for 30+ years, I have just realized that this book totally changed the way I see the city. The buildings, the history, the people -- they all seemed to have a new dimension. New York City is probably the best "character" in the book!

Beautifully written. Couldn't put it down.

I really loved Katey‘s character and I loved this book– it was an easy read, yet so well written. I much prefer Amor Towles when he’s writing about something he has knowledge of. I was thoroughly entertained and invested throughout the whole book.
Also I knew Anne was trying to get it on with Katey, I felt the chemistry so that was exciting when they had a little moment. If only it led to a little more but nonetheless a little unexpected wlw action was exhilarating.

Amor Towles is in the running for my new favorite author.

I just happened to pick up two of Towles' books. I read them in the wrong order - but either way, I have fallen in love. I fell in love with his writing style. The characters in his books. The perfect way he travels back in time and takes his readers with him, without exhausting them. I could gush on and on.

The characters in this book are magical. I felt like I was in chilly New York. I felt the heart break and I felt the adventure.

The book feels like it skips around? It sometimes confused me? Really I felt like that was just the character. As Katey skipped around life and as her life took these dramatic turns, so did the readers. I loved the way we skipped all the boring in between and got right to the point. Right to the 'good stuff'.

Please pick up this book.

You won't be disappointed.

Words not your thing? Odd you are on goodreads then. No judgement, check out my picture book on this new hip site called 'Instagram'.

Love this author and the way he writes. It's so immersive and moving. Every character is a complex, flawed and loveable  person and you root for them all. I never want his books to end.
