the lady who narrated the audiobook’s voice made me so sleepy i kept falling asleep and losing track of the book. upon reading some summaries after i finished i think it was pretty good.

I’m sad I’ll never get to read this book again for the first time.

As warm and intoxicating as Gentleman in Moscow in the writing, Amor once again creates a world and lives that are rich and meaningful.

We’ll written and mildly interesting novel. I really appreciate Towle’s craftsmanship and ability to create a compelling sentence. The biggest issue I had with this book is my lack of empathy with the characters. I enjoyed the insight into the human condition. The tone of the pragmatist reminded me of The Bell Jar, but less depressed.

Rules of Civility is one of the rare books in which, the moment I hit the last page, I started again at the beginning. I did this for two reasons: firstly because the characters grow so much throughout the story, that I needed to go back to remember exactly how they had started, and secondly because the characters in this story are more than what they seem upon first introducing them. Reading this story a second time allowed me to appreciate the wit and symbolism this story had to offer, beyond the main premise, which itself was also very enjoyable. This is the second book I've read by Towles and I look forward to his next!
