Towles is very good at atmosphere, at the vibes. I am pulled in with each novel & have trouble setting it down. This may be my favorite so far. It felt cinematic. Also clearly he’s a writer for people who have read many many books, which is delicious and fun

This book was fine, but really I couldn't see anything special about it. It felt more focused on vibes than plot, which is okay, except that the vibes have already been done so many times and there was nothing new in this portrayal. I also found Towles (when writing as Katy) to have a stilted, forced voice, which made it hard to connect with the character.

I love Amor Towles writing. The premise was simple- an early 20s women in NYC. Told over the course of her 1938 year. It felt like nothing happened but it was the every day of it, the clever, poetic writing and the characters that did it for me. And in the end- this year changed so much about her life. It was such a fun read, made me read paragraphs back because I loved the writing so much!
