I hesitated to read this book for a long time. I read that it was about high-society in New York City of which I have absolutely no interest. I loved A Gentleman in Moscow so much that I decided to give it a go. Well, hat’s off to Amor Towles! His writing drew me in after just a few chapters and I absolutely adored this story. Quite an accomplishment — from 0 interest to 5-stars in 350 pages.

My senior year of college, I studied Edith Wharton. Then and since then, I have found her aristocratic New York society intriguing, but slightly unreachable. Rules of Civility is a different time period and a different set of people, but it felt Wharton-esque to me, only more graspable.

If I don't know what to do with myself for the next few days, it will be because I so thoroughly enjoyed reading this that anything else will be a bit of a let down. That's the mark of a great book, if you ask me.
