Felt very slow.  Didn't care about the characters.

I've never read or seen Practical Magic so I thought it would be fun to start here. I enjoyed the famiky focus and I'm curious to see how these characters are further developed.

I fell into this book and the characters and the curse and lost myself and my worries for theirs. How does she do it? I’m not sure I want to know I just want Alice Hoffman to keep writing more. So many moments of raw feeling and clear imagery. Thanks Davina!

This was my favorite in the series and the one that felt most true to the pacing and feel of the movie. I loved learning more about this family and am so happy I gave this a chance. When Alice Hoffman is on her writing is so evocative and beautiful. Fans of the movie will love this book just like I did!

This book is more a story of family and love with undertones of magic. Overall I enjoyed the characters and their story but while the beginning hooked me in, I found the middle to be too long and at times boring. The ending did allow for some redemption and I did find myself satisfied.

When you truly love someone and they love you in return, you ruin your lives together. That is not a curse, it's what life is, my girl. We all come to ruin, we turn to dust, but whom we love is the thing that lasts.

The Rules of Magic is another prequel to Practical Magic. Another fantastic tale in the Owens family, this time following the old aunts we meet in Practical magic, Franny and Jet, and their brother Vincent, growing up and navigating life and the curse in their own way. It transitioned fantastically to the start of Gillian and Sally's story.

It started out good but didn't go anywhere. I liked the characters but they didn't DO anything. I kept waiting for something to happen but nothing really did and when something halfway interesting started to happen it was cut short. Really not that good of a book. Waste of time.
