it is a good book, interesting plot and story line. But the 'instant love' thing was a little too much for my taste. Also, the protagonist kept on downplaying her abilities and looks and things, but then the tritagonist and antagonist and all the other people tell her she will won the tournament BASED LN EVERYTHING EXCEPT HER FIGHTING SKILLS. Just because she has the 5 virtues down (which is not true since there was said earlier in the book she was NOT an obedient girl) does not mean she will overcome fighting these lethal women... and her personality I cannot really place. is she brave? is she a coward? what? anyway, 4 stars for the storyline. minus one line for the annoying little parts.

I’m finding that at my old age I dislike (or rather feel meh) at the whole “girl has lived a secluded life and has never seen a man only to fall in love with the first one she meets”. The magic system was interesting, and in terms of plot I guessed some parts and was somewhat surprised by others.
The instant love between Kalinda and Devon was dumb. She was a lame character. Plot has potential but the lack of any character development ruined it.
Yup, I preordered the next book!
I'm a very picky reader. If a story is utterly stupid I'll tag it as DNF and forget it. This was a wonderful story worth reading. I can't wait for the next one,

This book had everything I wanted and more. I was hesitant at first because fantasy isn't usually my thing, but Kalinda quickly drew me in with her mysterious illness and close friendship with Jaya. This book takes a series of twists and turns, some expected and some not, and ends in such a satisfying way that leaves me hungry for the next book in the series.
I picked up this book just because the summary sounded interesting and it was definitely a good choice. While a little predictable and cliched in certain parts, Kalinda is nevertheless a strong female heroine who, against all odds, is chosen by the Rajah to be his one hundredth and last queen - but she must fight and defeat all her challengers before she can claim her throne. The Hundredth Queen is beautifully narrated and the storyline is fast paced and engaging, making for an entertaining read.

Die Welt ist patriarchalisch aufgebaut, die Frauen werden unterdrückt und sind zum Teil (sexueller) Gewalt ausgeliefert. Man sollte auf jeden Fall die Finger vom Buch lassen, wenn man mit diesem Grundkonzept nichts anfangen kann.
Solches Worldbuilding zählt nicht zu meinen bevorzugten Bereichen, allerdings können solche Geschichten vielversprechend sein, wenn man trotzdem starke weibliche Charaktere und gut gezeichnete Antagonisten hat.
Die Protagonistin selbst hat den Großteil der Geschichte kaum selbst gehandelt, erst zum Schluss hat sie selbstständige Entscheidungen getroffen. Die Frauen um sie herum, wie Anjali und die Hauptfrau waren allerdings starke Persönlichkeiten.
Die Figur des Rajas fand ich nur sehr oberflächlich beschrieben. Es wurden zwar Beweggründe für sein Handeln beschrieben, diese waren für mich aber nicht logisch.
Die Insta Lovestory war für mich wirklich ein Dorn im Auge.
