Simply could not finish

Ok, non-Indian authors writing Indian based fiction... Either do serious research or just STOP it.

1. India isn't monolithic. India has, for centuries, several different religions ranging from non-theistic, to monotheistic, to polytheistic.
2. Above all, Indians believe in self-cleanliness. You will rarely find an Indian who will sit at breakfast without cleaning one's mouth. And definitely won't be eating or sleeping until a shower/bath after a journey.
3. Speaking of shower/bath, these are never done indoors in a 'tub' in the western manner. Please, please understand that. Bathing areas have been separated from sleeping areas for centuries.
4. Unless Indian is a small child or a person with physical needs, they do NOT get bathed by someone else. If assistance is required for washing hair, it is done prior to the bath.

I could've forgiven the instant love (as it was branded as romance) and I could've forgiven the blatant mismatching names within the weird invented religion. But the errors above are just heinous.

Too many tropes and not enough depth.

Okay not a review because I'll have to take time to gather myself and all my anger and annoyance and all the bad emotions and tell you in my Wrap Up. BUT I just read the description for the next book. AND WHAT THE F*CK Y DO PEOPLE STILL EVEN WRITE BOOKS LIKE THIS STILL. This story had so much potential but it was so brutally murder and then next book sounds [how to convey feelings without cursing?]
I just really can't.

Fantastic!

I love the way things are describe by the author! Very polished and mesmerizing. Parts of the story are pretty predictable, but it's a great story none the less and you finish fully enjoying all the characters, be it adoring them or loving to hate them!

Typical corrupt government with someone fighting to be queen story. I just wanted an uplifting book but the story is rather dull and the characters are idiots.

Couldn't finish.

*based on the audiobook*

I enjoyed the stories of the gods and what the powers are like for the half-demon/ half-gods. It reminded me slightly of the last Airbender with the use of elements and being able to draw on them but with the difference of the powers being within and not necessarily having to draw on the environment to use them.

I loved the authors writing style. She had the ability to draw me into the story without having to write about battles or bloodshed. In this way, the book reminded me a lot of The Wrath and the Dawn by Renee Adieh but with a less romantic feel and more of an inner warrior fighting against tyranny vibe.

I could have done without the familiar tropes that are included in the book as well as the romance. I feel like these things just got in the way of the story and didn't add as much. I felt that some of the characters motivations were confusing and I couldn't understand why they made the decisions that they did unless it all came down to power and jealousy above all else. I would have liked to have seen different reasons and explanations of their actions to make them more relatable and three dimensional.

This started off as a 4 star read, but it took soooooo long for things to actually start happening that it kind of dragged for me. However, I loved the setting, and  the description of things and characters. This is a super slow burn for me. There is also so much foreshadowing that you can guess exactly what’s going to happen before it does. I think I’ll continue the series to see where it goes, but we’ll see after book 2
