The writing style of the author hampers this book. It lacks emotional depth. It’s a bunch of cliched plot points and tropes thrown together for 300+ pages. And sometimes her writing style feels like whiplash. It’s a shame cause the premise and merging of the two MCs cultures was intriguing. It just needs a better writer.

I really enjoyed this second instalment! It was even better than the first. This had lots of tropes used well - tragic backstory, miscommunications, friends to enemies to lovers - plus the awesome ensemble cast of the first book. I liked the love interest in this one a whole lot and also loved the quirkiness of the geeky heroine.

What could have been an interesting tale ended up being filled with tropes that are boring and lackluster. It was a fun, mindless read, I'll give it that. Definitely nice to take a break from more challenging reads. But get ready for lots of cringe and for the men to inevitably get more interesting character development than a strong female lead.
