I COULD NOT PUT THIS DOWN. ITS SOOO GOD. Every single character is fascinating and the whole plot is just so intricate and finely thought out, it’s actually baffling. I literally have no clue what to expect next, but also I have so many questions.

The pre- crossing story intermixed with the book at first confused me. It all connected near the middle and I found the last half exciting. I couldn't put it down! Looking forward to reading last book of Trilogy.

More graphic than the first but I still want to read the 3rd book.

This is labeled as Young Adult, but, though Queen Kelsea is 19, I would not call this book YA. Too dark. Other books hint at all the bad things that can befall people, especially women, but this book not only calls it by it's name, but shows it too. But in a completely authentic way that is true to the story, and not at all gratuitous (not more than real life is, anyway). I was rather "meh" about the first, though I liked it, but this book pulled me in more and I quite like this series now. Glad I only have to wait a few months until the final book!

This story threw me off abit when a new character/world was introduced seemingly out of thin air but it came together in the end.

I'm loving this trilogy and now cannot wait for the final book to be released in December! Although not a huge amount of time has passed the main character Kelsea has matured rapidly through the pressures she has been placed under. There was an interesting twist to the history of the Tearling and the Queen's ancestry that I hadn't expected - this was a pleasant surprise :) I really like the way this book handles issues that are very relevant in today's world/society without over simplifying them or even shying away from them. It feels much more of a Young Adult novel than Teenage Fiction without being a serious Adult novel which makes a nice change. Yay for the strong female characters!!
