Great picture book. A Caldecott Honor book. A young girl listens to her parents as they tell her how animals go to sleep. As the story progresses, she uses all the ways the animals go to sleep to find her way to have a good night's sleep.

As a lifelong insomniac, this passes the weird sniff test I have with picture books about sleeping.

I am so absolutely in love with Zagarenski's illustrations in this book! Rich with incredible whimsical details such as the four leaf clover between the lions paws or the bears nail-polish red nails that keep me looking for more. The colors are bright yet tranquil. I bet the originals are just incredible and would love to have prints of any number of the scenes in this book. I'll be looking for more of this illustrator for sure!

Another book for the reluctant sleepers, but this stands out with its wonderfully diverse, multi-media artwork in softer pastels and muted bold colors. Although the blood red bear and tiger claws were a bit disconcerting the lyrical prose is heartening and comforting.
