I do enjoy his stuff. But it always felt like something lacked in most of these stories. I wish I could put a finger on exactly what it was, but it felt like just a general unhappiness with most of it in general.

Not my favourite Mieville. While some stories I was happy enough to see the back of I was left frustrated more often by imagining where things might have developed.

Read enough to feel confident in investing time in one of his novels

Some really interesting ideas here, but most of the stories ended so abruptly. I think I prefer China Miéville's novels over his short stories.

I'm always in the mood for some China Mieville. Here's a link to my review of the book for Entertainment Weekly: http://www.ew.com/article/2015/07/30/three-moments-of-an-explosion-china-mieville-review

This was a rough one. The collection had some absolutely stunning moments but man-oh-man I thought I would never get to the end of it. I assume that as the author was writing much of this collection he was thinking 'oh wow! I am so clever.' Very disappointing after reading 'This Census-Taker' (which is an incredibly beautiful book).

This one took me so, so long to read. Overall I enjoyed it. I didn't realise there were so many short stories in it, and some definitely were much better than others. Some were also a bit too weird, if there really is such a thing. Many of these stories could have been thickened out to longer short stories or even novellas. There are more than a few stories that could have added in something of an explanation about why whatever was happening was happening. Even though a few of the stores dragged and some were way too weird for me to deal with, I still enjoyed Mieville's writing and imagination.

Finally finished this. Most of the stories were meh, with a few gems, as is usually the case in short fiction collections. A few were too gruesome for me.
