First time of listening to the audiobook of JRR Tolkien's classic, as read by Robert Inglis. I can see why it is considered a classic fantasy, and I fairly enjoyed it. I love the films, and listening to this unabridged audiobook filled in parts that weren't on the screen (Tom Bombadil, the rescuing of the Shire etc). It did feel like a history book instead of a novel at times, and did meander a bit. On the whole it was entertaining to listen to this audiobook. Worth a listen to, even if only for the renditions of the songs.
i wept like a child, literally after everything they went through i just AHHH god it was so good, took me 21 years to read it but better late than never
Deserves its reputation as a classic. The beginning (Fellowship of the Ring) and the end (Return of the King) are very enjoyable, but the middle (The Two Towers) is a bit dull. Still, I love this story no matter how many times I read it.
Ah...how can I possibly write a review of LOTR? It is a book that I could re-read each year and still find some new gem between the covers.
I will report that I tried to read it 15 years ago and I could not get into it. As I am not a great lover of fantasy, I had difficulty figuring out the relationships between the elves, wizards, hobbits and dwarfs. Consequently, it sat abandoned on my bookshelf for years.
Everything changed for me after the first LOTR movie was released and I finally could grasp the interactions of the characters. After that, I immersed myself in the three books and couldn't get enough of Frodo and Sam's adventures.
This would be the lone example of a movie heightening my reading experience.

I loved the movie but the books never grabbed my attention
