I honestly don't know how many times I've read this book, although this must be the first time in over a decade. Safe to say, it's still an absolute joy, and feels like coming home...
This book only gets better and better every time I read it.

I’ve been curious about the fantasy world of Tolkien’s since high school and having read other fantasy series, I never had a real opportunity to step into his grand epic. While I eventually read “The Hobbit”, it gave me more interest into trying to jump into “LOTR”. I finally stepped in and while reading it with the beautiful 2021 illustrated edition, I found one rich fantasy masterpiece.
It all begins when a hobbit named Bilbo Baggins strangely vanishes during his birthday celebration. Frodo, the nephew of Bilbo, is now entrusted by the great wizard Gandalf with a powerful ring that must not fall in the grasp of Sauron. With a fellowship accompanying him including his friends Merry, Pippin and Sam, they set off on a long quest to reach Rivendell where the ring will be in safer hands. That quest will become one full of characters that will help them along the way, moments of danger and suspense, and even see them separated the further they will come.
It is a long quest, but a phenomenal fantasy that never stops being worth every page. The way it’s told never gets tiring and its tone feels so sobering. I was won over by the series’ lore as it’s so rich with characters and settings. In the end, it’s an alluring and adventurous fantasy about good vs. evil and you’ll go back to Middle Earth, as well as Tolkien’s other tales, to soak it in again and again. A (100%/Outstanding)

¡Al fin he podido terminarme este libro que tanto tiempo he tenido en mi estantería!
El Señor de los Anillos es de mi trilogía cinematográfica favorita. He crecido con ella y ya no llevo la cuenta de las veces que habré podido vermela entera. La curiosidad juvenil me hizo acercarme a los libros por saber más y por tener más material con el que imbuirme porque me fascinaba ese mundo.
Después de tantos años de intentos he podido terminarmelo y puedo decir que me ha gustado. Es verdad, tiene sus altibajos como todo libro. Sin embargo, en este se hace especialmente duro porque la manera de escribir de Tolkien es muy particular y a mi no me ha llegado a convencer en muchos puntos. En especial, al princpio y al final del libro (A nadie le interesa lo que sienta Éowyn, lo siento mucho).
Pero, tengo que decir que hay algunas partes que me he gozado como un gorrino; el arco del trío saltinbamqui (Frodo, Sam y Gollum) por su atmósfera tan axfisiante; el libro tercero de Las dos torres por la extensión del mundo que desarrolla; y los dos últimos capítulos del libro: tanto el saneamiento de la comarca porque ves el resultado del camino que emprendieron estos héroes, como la despedida de Frodo en los puertos grises. Me hace llorar en las películas y me lo hizo también en el libro porque es la conclusión de una aventura, pero también la de un amistad que fue más allá.
Ha sido un recorrido bonito, pero también lento. Si vuelvo a él será, por ahora, a través de las películas por la accesibilidad y la comodidad que da el vídeo frente al papel. Espero poder algún día atraverme de nuevo con esta aventura y redescubrir nuevas cosas en ese posible futuro retorno.

It was a fantastically written, creative work of fiction, but there was a lot of new terminology to come to terms with - having to flip to the index from time to time did slightly dampen the flow when reading.
Overall I really enjoyed it, and I'm sure that if I were to put in the effort to re-read it, it would be easier than it was the first time.
