I enjoyed the story of the unexpected romance between a young woman and her best friend's mother. But something felt like it was missing. I never quite connected with any of the characters, though not because of likeability issues. And the final section with Sadie's daughter was a bit saccharine. I thought she had the voice of a child, not teenager. Overall not a bad read, but not outstanding.

everyone who doesn’t like this book just feels like that one meme about how people can’t handle complex female characters. i don’t think the point is character development, i think it’s more so just about female relationships, and the form they take, and feminism??? idk! but i did enjoy this lmao
