This was a good short story but based on the excellent reviews I expected a little bit more. I can't even really put my finger on why I didn't love this. It's super easy reading and overall pretty interesting, but I honestly didn't love the ending. Unpopular opinion, i know. 🤷‍♀️

'My Evil Mother' is the perfect length for such a quirky story. It was a fun read, even if the general concept wasn't anything new, and small details throughout characterised the protagonist's mother as someone truly eccentric. Atwood's writing style still holds strong even in a short fiction format, and I think I would really like to read more of her work, having only read The Handmaid's Tale and The Testaments.
