I only read the title story. I also had Harlan Ellison and Ralph Ellison confused... oops

An incredible read, and a classic for obvious reasons. Like some other reviews have pointed out — although I don’t like the misogyny towards Helen, I have to wonder if it wasn’t one of the tools to point out subtle reasons why the AI hated humanity so much. Worth reading and dissecting either way.

It would have been much better without the misogyny.
They’re all twisted and tortured by the machine and the only women present just becomes a “slut.” It’s surprising that with all the creativity on display, the author couldn’t conceive of anything beyond it. Most of her characterisation comes from her wanting sex, with her main display of compassion being a result of her not wanting the man with the biggest appendage to die. Simply unimaginative.
