This is a wonderful book, and one of the few I continually underlined for reference. This is one I will reread multiple times.
I’m sure physically reading the book would have been a different experience. I did it as an audiobook and I’m sorry, it was kind a boring. The concept of the book is phenomenal and I love the concept of gratitude. It was just...a little slow.
I've heard of gratitude diaries and have read the 30 days of gratitude posts on Facebook every November, but Janice Kaplan's book was the first to explain the practice in a way that wasn't overly preachy or too weighed down in research. Granted, Kaplan's life is already pretty awesome, but even those who seem to have it all need to be reminded to be gracious.
The book started strong and I was hooked, but Kaplan lost steam as the year continued, like she was grasping for areas in which to express gratitude. Previous reviewers said she was a bit wordy at times. I agree, but it's easy enough to skip over those parts and still get the gist of he message.
All in all, a good read.

Very well researched, a perfect blend of academic knowledge and personal experience that showed the value of gratitude.
I really liked this book. Both the style of writing and the information contained in it were compelling. What I particularly like about this one is the mix of memoir and research, the practicality, and the common sense within it. I talked to someone else who said he wasn't looking forward to the read because he assumed it would be schmaltzy and "touchy-feely," but he was pleasantly surprised. I knew exactly what he meant.
Really good mix of personal narrative intertwined with interviews with experts. Definitely worth reading if it's not your natural inclination to look on the bright side.
Insightful mix of personal experience blended with scientific research. Plus, an uplifting read!
Very insightful and somewhat realistic. I started my own gratitude journal and at times I would struggle to find things to be grateful about. Sometimes all you have to grateful for is having feet and if that's all it takes, then so be it!
