Really beautifully written. I’m eager to read more by the author.

This was a really good debut novel. It’s not a story I relate to but I really enjoyed it nonetheless. That’s what makes a good story IMO.

Such a powerful and thought provoking story. A story that pulls at your heartstrings. A story that makes you realize the power of effective parenting and the effects of favoritism and sibling rivalry in a family.

It’s so important to know that what works for child A might not work for child B. It was fascinating to see that the seemingly ‘little things’ parents do can have long lasting effects on their children. Your children won’t see your intentions but your actions and reactions

It was also interesting to see the different reactions each character had to the same events.

The characters were beautifully written and I could almost feel their frustration, pain and joy.

One thing I didn’t like though was how I was tossed around by the order of the chapters. The transitions were so poor, it annoyed me tbh

It is however a stunning debut with strong themes like faith, tradition, religion, family, love and loss.

Recommended if you like books about immigration and being raised by strict Muslim parents.

This is a (very) slow burn, but that last section makes it all worth it.
