I just finished Jane Austen’s Mansfield Park. Hate to say it but definitely my least favorite Austen novel so far. Fanny Price is not a very likeable heroine, but she still deserved better than to marry her cousin/ brother who ignored her for another girl 95% of the book. 2.5/5 stars
I'm so glad I re-read this, but I feel like I need to read it immediately again -- such an odd, complicated bit of Austen.
One of my favorite Jane Austen books. Maybe that’s an unpopular opinion. I don’t care. I am excessively fond of Fanny Price.
Perhaps I just haven't read Austen in awhile and forgot her style but a lot of this was a slog. Part 2 got better and part 3 got better but then slowed down again. my sister laughed at me for continuing to read a book a didn't enjoy. I may have to go back and reread Pride & Prejudice or Emma just to see if they are as good as I remember. I also started Northanger Abbey twice, and couldn't go there, that was even harder. I wonder if they were published posthumously just to make money. (cynical I know)

Honestly Fanny was unbearably bland for a good 75% of the book but she did get better as the story went on. I know the Crawfords are supposed to be the cautionary tale and all but their characters are what gave this book any life. Can you imagine the entire novel with just bland Fanny and the ridiculously uptight Edmund?? No thanks. It did have quite a few laugh out loud moments for me and I was genuinely shocked and entertained at the events that transpired towards the end. I’ll still give it 3 Stars.

I love Jane Austen but this is really disappointing. I really hate the ending.
