Well.
That was something.
You know, I honestly believed Neva did her research and took onboard some feedback hence this book ended up teetering towards being more romantic than the others. Quite the book for it too - it's a forbidden age gap romance between stepsiblings.
Well. It's an odd one. I think the reason I could stomach it was due to the fact the pair didn't really know each other or were in each other's physical presence. Massimo had a glimpse of Zahara as a toddler at best before he was imprisoned for 18 years. It wasn't until Zahara reached her teens that she decided to write to her stepbrother in prison as part of a school project. And it also became her escape in a way to write away everything like her own personal journal. Massimo didn't respond until he realised he could utilise her to get information regarding her Don of a father. The stepfather he was currently manipulating to run the Cosa Nostra.
Their familial connection technically ends becausethe parents in question, are dead. So they meet officially for the first time as adults at the funeral of Zahara's father. This is revealed in Nera's book previously but we now get this from Zahara's.
Suffice to say, it wasn't her worst work. We had cameos from some older favourites in the Perfectly Imperfect universe and there was a deeper focus on the runnings of the mafia. We also followed Zahara's journey with facing her insecurities namely when it came to her Vitiligo.
That was all good and well.
I just wasn't expecting Massimo to go from a cunning, calculated and driven man with a vendetta to... whatever the heck he was when he got obsessed with Zahara. The arguing with his "alter ego" was comedic but probably in the worst way. I couldn't take him seriously at all. This is why I loved Salvatore Ajello. Truly an iconic mafia man who is whipped for his wife but actually remains menacing that doesn't involve unhinged threats every two seconds. I understand the concept that these male leads need to be seen as "touch her and die" icons but the threats are less effective when they're being thrown around willy nilly at every opportunity.
Yeah.
So. The cringe may have cringed too hard in this one. I'm assuming Book 12 will feature Adriano. He seems psychopathic enough.
Sadly readers, it looks as though we aren't getting that Kostya book I've been hoping for. As evidenced in multiple comments on Instagram by Neva, she cannot have a book for every guy. I know she secretly detests him because he's not the broken alpha domineering lead she loves to feature. Kostya is just comedy. A clown. I will cherish the crumbs we had of him. Sigh.
Anyhow. A surprising turn I could get through this one but expectations were low to begin with. We'll see if the series can still be saved by Arturo and Tara because THAT is a pair I'm eager to get back to.

Neva Altaj delivered again!
I don't think there is anything Neva could write that I wouldn't inhale! She is the Queen of Mafia Romance! I loved this story! You can see the characters falling in love. Just like in all her stories, they only have eyes for their girl and I absolutely devoure that type of writing! It's a must read!

As a whole, this was a solid book! I loved seeing Zahara come out of her shell and grow into herself. The plot twist, though, was INCREDIBLY predictable. Like, first 50 pages I guessed it kind of predictable. Other than that this was pretty fun, nothing special.
