After seeking out some spoiler-filled reviews to find out if it would be worth my while to continue reading this book, I've decided to cut my losses and DNF it.

Things are happening at 58% of the book that should have happened in the first 30%. There was far too much repetition (I hope I never hear the words The Incident one more time!). While it's understandable that Willa has PTSD from what her fiancé and best friend did to her, by 58% of the way into the book, I was getting a picture that she really wasn't a great person (or a good person) to begin with. References to her previous life paint a picture of a self-absorbed narcissist. Post incident, she's still a self-absorbed narcissist, but now she's also a heinous b*tch to everyone around her. She even quit going to therapy because her therapist "asked questions" and wanted Willa to talk about "The Incident." She treats Maisie like M is an imbecile (the narrator's voice for M didn't help with this), and she's completely heinous toward Liam just because he laughed when she was making a complete and utter ass of herself by throwing the most immature temper tantrum the first time he saw her.

And, really, in this day and age . . . she just quit going to work because she was depressed? She wasn't even adult enough to ask to take a leave of absence? She could have even gotten her therapist to write up something that could probably have gotten her some FMLA time! But, no, she was fired from her job because she's so self-absorbed and immature that she just quit going to work because she had a sad.

Halfway (almost two-thirds) through the book, there has been no character growth from Willa. She's still in the I won't trust anyone or be friends with anyone or even be nice to anyone because my fiancé/best friend hurt me and I have to take it out on everyone around me state of mind. And because it's written solely from her viewpoint (first-person POV), there's no getting away from this negative, self-absorbed, narcissism.

No thanks. Next.

I thought Willa, the protagonist, was unbearable and very self centered.  But Liam, the love interest, was my favorite lmao

Such a well-written piece about an unlikely friendship and gaining independence and freedom from whatever haunts you

So good I didn’t even mind that there’s no spice (I think they call that closed door?)

Such a sweet book. Honestly, I don't know what I would have done if I was in Willa's place, to have her ex best friend betray her like that. I think what I enjoyed the most wasn't Willa finding love again, but finding a true friend, something she didn't think she would have again. The theme of female friendship throughout the book really resonated with me and I loved how even at the end of it, I felt that the friendship developed was the main point of the boom. There were some cheesy moments, but an enjoyable book overall.

Super sweet book about learning to trust again. I’d definitely say it’s more of a love story about friendship than the main love interest which wasn’t what I was expected but actually really enjoyed.

this book was cute! the author doesn't have the best metaphors but she does construct plot well. i mostly read it for the e2l but i liked that the MC had a life beyond that. i did laugh here and there. i would recommend this, it was light-hearted and so easy to read

This checks all the boxes, amazing friendships, terrific families (mostly) and a totally swoonworthy love interest. Willa's journey was so intense and complete. We start with her at the lowest and get to see how she starts to heal.

This is a closed door romance for those that care about it. The romance is really secondary to the friendships and the healing.
