What would happen if all the women fell asleep and got transported to an alternate universe leaving all the men behind with no one to make their sandwiches and or iron their shirts (seriously do people still iron)? This book asks a lot of interesting questions but takes way too long to come to the conclusion. The gender representation feels a bit dated and stereotyped which is probably why it was set in Appalachia (don't hate, I am from there) and not in a more urban location where both sides would likely have fared better at figuring stuff out rather than resorting to all out warfare. The gore felt gratuitous but was probably necessary for the old school King fans but the story would have been fine (better in my opinion) with out it. Do not read the list of characters in the beginning only about 1/3 of them are important and a bunch of them do not matter at all. I might have given the story 4 stars if it had been shorter.

The concept is very interesting, but it kind of drags on and it feels like nothing happens. Also suffers from Stephen King can't write an ending syndrome. It's okay.

There was too much unnecessary rambling and too many characters, I kinda lost track of who was who. The idea was interesting.

I love the concept of this, it creates tension and shows the effects of the pandemic on the ensemble of characters, several of these characters I thought were great. I was really enjoying this until it got towards the end where there just really wasn’t enough explanation over why this was happening and a very underwhelming climax.

Believe it or not, this was my first Stephen King novel and I was excited to see what all the hype has been surrounding this author. I definitely should have glanced at the reviews before choosing this one, as it's apparently not one of King's best. It was a little bit difficult to stay interested in the first 200 pages, but once I was past that part, it was a pretty smooth ride through the next 500. There was definitely an abundance of overly thought out, lengthy descriptions and random rabbit trails that were thrown into the book. The book characterized all of the males in the story as either rapists, secret keepers, or anger-filled abusers while the women were all victims of the situations males put them in. The most disappointing part of the book was that after reading about all of the various storylines of women's lives being destroyed by men, and having one active feminist trying to save womankind, the women all chose to return to their previous lives after being presented with a new world that they could recreate as their own (and living in that world for a year). Additionally, the authors decided to spend the last 50 pages showcasing the majority of the women regretting the choice that they made. Wouldn't recommend if you're looking for a happy ending. Or a quick read. I'll try another King novel some other day.

An interesting look at a world in which all the women fall asleep.

Finally finished this one after 6 months and many breaks/naps. Too many characters and too long! There’s so much going on when 1 King writes a book - so imagine the chaos with 2! I’m still rating it 3 because I appreciate the effort of these 2 men to reflect on gender roles and feminism
