Loved the first section, with the wolf. Loved when the brothers were together, great dialogue. Couldn't really be bothered to think through the mystic mumbo jumbo except on the most basic, surface level. Sorry Mr McCarthy, not really my thing. Love the stoic deadpan and the action and all the free tortillas.

It's been a week since I finished this book for the second time and I still can't stop thinking about it. There are so many passages that stop me dead in my tracks, moments of heartbreaking tenderness and wisdom I hope never leave me. As far as novels go, this one is damn near perfect.

Thoroughly enjoyable - but somewhat of a shift from the first in the trilogy.
Moreso than “All the Pretty Horses,” I enjoyed being lectured to at the end in the extremely McCarthy epilogue debriefing moments. I often can go without them and sometimes feel weighed down by the sudden philosophical dump at the end of a McCarthy book, but for the first time I feel like this one added more than what it detracted pacing-wise. What is the thing itself but a place for people to project themselves onto? Boyd’s bones are not Boyd - just as the airplane being towed is not the airplane desired, but they serve the function of placating the mind.
I found Billy to be a more compelling character than John Grady Cole, but in the end I think I still enjoyed “All the Pretty Horses” more.
