The Crossing

Cormac McCarthy

4.15 AVERAGE

My god.
I felt like it was a littel bloated in some parts but jesus the ending makes up for it.
The whole read is worth just having the context of the last 4 pages. truely unreal stuff here.
this will sit with me for days.
Ill hold off reading Cities of the Plain until i have digested this... unreal stuff

Godod

EDIT: Upon reading All The Pretty Horses and rereading this, I have to downgrade my review of this book. The beginning and end are masterpieces but the middle drags. A lot. All The Pretty Horses is overall a better book with more compelling and well-rounded characters, in my opinion.

I haven't read All The Pretty Horses, but I think I will now that I've come to understand just how beautifully McCarthy writes. As far as I know, there's nothing lost by reading this before All The Pretty Horses, although I can't be sure. However, this book did make sense read out of sequence and it was very powerful in its own right. I can't believe it's part of a series because it just simply seems too good: it's very much a book that can stand alone.

Nothing I say about this will match up to the experience of reading it, so I'm not going to say anything more. Read this book.

This was the most difficult and emotionally taxing McCarthy book I've read so far. Engaging, beautifully written, and intelligent, but brutal and relentless. It definitely warrants a second read, but I'll not get around to that for a few years.
