Considerably more wandering than All The Pretty Horses but an excellent book all the same. There's an interlude in the middle that reads an awful lot like McCarthy's take on Dostoevsky's 'The Grand Inquisitor', which is a real knockout.

I mean, how does anyone ever say anything coherent after reading McCarthy?

A hideously sorrowful book, one that seems to suggest human life emerges from the dust and ends in the dust, that we are all nothing more than the tales we tell ourselves, a story that's true so long as it's being told, with whatever reality of the world that exists rising and falling with the telling.

And how sad it is that all stories must end.
