I just couldn't get into the writing style in this book. The dialogue felt unnatural and there was a lot of exposition. The MMC seemed like he was being way too obvious about being a vampire, and the FMC was not concerned enough about that. Also, the MMC seemed like he was meant to be out of touch with the current time period, but the way he spoke seemed to be a mix of old-fashioned speak and words that sounded more modern but almost exclusively used by small children, like "tummy" and "yummy." It's like the author couldn't decide in which way he was a kind of silly character so just decided to make him silly in all the ways, and it didn't feel cohesive.

Odd Blood is the first book in a cozy horror room com series. It's sweet and adorable, has found family vibes, and is pretty light on the horror (despite vampires drinking blood and sometimes killing humans). The story moves slow for most of the book, but it was a charming read so I didn't mind. Looking forward to reading more from this author for sure!

I feel like planning for this book to be a 4 part series from the beginning was a bit of a detriment. This book felt very slow, while it took course over 2 weeks and we learned a lot about the characters nothing really happened at all. Often there would be strange, nonsensical sentences that seemed to randomly describe something that really took me out of the story. Saying a phone is begrudgingly in a back pocket for no reason and then moving on. I felt like these descriptions really showed how little everything meaningful was described.

But now I want to read a dorky vampire book!

I recieved an Arc in return for an honest review. Thank you so much Azalea Crowley for allowing me to read your debut book!

When I saw the premise of this book I immediately thought of the movie Dark Shadows, and What We do in the Dark. I knew then that I had to get my hands on this book! everyone in Josephine's friend group is getting married and having children and spending less and less time with each other. when her best friend and roommate Michelle decides to move out Josephine is feeling more than lost. she needs to find a new place to live while living on a bakery salary. feeling more distanced than ever from her best friend who ditched her for her fiancé one night at a party she finds herself standing outside the party when Eadwulf falls into her life.

For me this book was a very interesting read and I loved the caretaker relationship that Josephine had with the elderly grandma she was one of the most entertaining things about this book! I also thoroughly Ana and Eadwulfs bickering and comrodaree.

Josephine and Eadwulf's relationship fell kind of flat for me. for me personally, I just didn't see or feel the chemistry between them outside of a "coworker" type feeling. so the big ending scene threw me off. maybe its because I never really felt like these two characters came to life on the page like Ana and the elderly nana did. but I did really enjoy a lot of aspects of the novel and I can't wait to see what Azalea Crowley writes next I will 100% be reading more from this author!
