Imagine this: Put Anthony Stark, the Japanese Ultraman and Shaider variations, and detective stories on a blender. You don't get any worse than that. I mean, it wasn't that bad that we try out Jim Gordon to go Bats. But it doesn't seem fit.

The Bullock stuff was ok, but I loved the League team up and even the bit with Grayson. I wouldn't want this Batman forever (there's no other way to say that), but I am enjoying the change of scenery while it lasts.

I really really enjoyed this book. I actually enjoyed Gordon as Batman in this edition more so than I did in the other book I read with him in the suit.

This is a tough review as there is a writer transition very early in this collection as well as a major shift away from Bruce Wayne being Batman sometime between volume 7 and 8 of this collection. Both are jarring but the transition from Manapul to Tomasi, while a downgrade, is handled more smoothly. Of the Tomasi stories, Blood on Blood is the strongest and showed a way forward for the new Batman as well as a sci-fi detective throwback that you basically never get to read in comics.

I didn't really like the focus on Bullock and the police for the majority of this volume. Sometimes I'm good with it, but it just didn't hold my interest this time. We only have a limited time with the Gordon Bat-bot; focus on him.

I loved the Justice League issue though. I thought it was fun seeing Gordon in that group and his input was really sweet at the end.
